So ur gifted with that fabulous extravagant luxurious twin set (earings, necklace, bracelet and ring).
Or you probably saw this great unique find in a bazaar. Ethnic designs showcasing african or mangyan culture.

Or u were in Palawan and u just cant resist those HUGE SOUTH SEA PEARLS. Problem is, they come in sets.

So, What's the gameplan on wearing them?

I found myself in those situations plenty of times and once or twice I committed the ultimate lapse of sound fashion judgement.

After several hits and miss & discretely going to the toilet to pocket one or two of my worn baubles..

I conclude that we SHOULD only wear all of these lovely twin sets, at the same time, in these conditions --

1. We are the Queen attending a state dinner or a royal wedding;  (or in our echelon level, Ninang sa Kasal / wedding sponsor);

2. In our deathbed, when putting them on is not our own doing.

Let's face it, the world can only take one or two explosions (one in Baghdad, and perhaps another in Afghanistan).  The rest of the world (North Korea, Iran.…) have to wait for their turn.

Same goes with our accessories.

Like rockets or warheads, we launch them one at a time -- for maximum and sustained impact.
Our PRESENCE alone is already Explosive, all the rest are simply… well,  fireworks.

So, here's my rule of thumb:

[ ] Huge and/or Dangling earings calls for bare neck. It needs an open space to set-off nicely.   Don't choke the view by adding that choker.  Your audience's attention can only take so much. If you pull back the hair a bit, sets off nicely as well. For christ's sake, u paid for it. Wear it and dont hide it behind that lustrous of mop of hair.

[ ] Statement Rings / Cocktail Rings call for pale nail polish. A colorful and trendy polish like Red, Nail arts or Cracked nails are already Screaming … "look here!"   You don't need to attach a loud speaker. Choose only one. Unless

Cover up!

There's a lot of buzz these days on BB creams.  BB cream stands for Blemish Balm, Beauty Balm.   Considered as all-in-one facial cosmetic product.  It claims to replace moisturizer, sunblock, serum (since some even has anti-aging properties) and make-up primer.

BB creams are said to originate from Asia, mainly Korea and Japan.  Women, and even men from these countries are all for that "smooth" clean finish, even "doll-like" look is a million-dollar fad these days.

To be honest I haven't really started on that BB fad yet, because I'm really loyal on my current foundation from Nu Skin.  It's called Beneficial Tinted Moisturizer.  I've been using it for more than 10 years, long before all these BB creams made the headlines.

We are born with perfect complexion.  When I look at my daughter's beautiful flawless baby skin now.   I tell myself, "Wow, I am like this before!  What happened?"  Years, happened baby!  Endless rounds of late nights, bad diet, pock marks from pimples and chicken pox.  Lately, those disregard for sunblock are showing up as dark spots and discolorations.

I am crazy about Nu Skin's tinted moisturizer, because my the name itself, it's not just a foundation, but a moisturizer, as well.  I can skip my morning moisturizer and sunblock and use this, instead.  It covers up all my skin imperfections, yet it feels light and non-greasy.   I like that it's also infused with Vit. A & E and SPF 15, protects and prevents more damages in the future.

I've always been partial to that fresh, barely-there "no make up look" and in protecting my skin.  Almost 40, 'dahling. We can never have enough protection!  That's why, this product is really perfect for me.   I usually dust it off with finishing powder and voila, Flawless lola!

Nu Skin's Beneficial tinted moisturizer come in  4 different shades ~ Sand, Honey, Fair and Beige.  I have Pinoy brown complexion, so I usually use either Honey or Beige.   I don't want to look Kabuki Doll and I make sure to apply until the neck for that consistent hue all throughout.

A bottle of Nu Skin Tinted Moisturizers costs 1,815 pesos.   You can order Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN (868-7546). You may drop by their office at  15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines.

Look me in tinted moisturizer --   after a full-day going around, 6pm still flawless :))

What's your BHAG ?

It's the last quarter of the year and most companies are now sitting-down, planning next year's targets.  Business planning are often stressful, and needs you to imagine more than what you one is capable of doing.  That's why they always do it in nice fancy hotels, with sumptous buffet spread, like the last meal of a doomed man, because the next round of events will probably deprive the managers of life. :))

My husband just had their own business planning, and came home looking spaced-out.  "Honey, are you ok?"  He just mumbled, "yeah, is it 2013 yet?"

My favorite company Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines has set an ambitious goal for 2013. That is, a ONE BILLION in total revenue.  It's a Big, Hair, and Audacious Goal...

For those unfamiliar with the term, a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) was coined by James Collins and Jerry Porras in 1994, in their book Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies.  A BHAG (pronounced BEE-hag), is actually a strategic business statement, which allows organisations to focus on one long term audacious goal. A BHAG can be quite ‘out there’; it can seem very questionable, even scary, thus described as a hairy monster, but it is actually not at all impossible.

Nu Skin has been with the Philippines since 1998.  Philippines is their 23rd market in the world.  They have about 20,000 active distributors in the country alone.   Nu Skin Philippines belong to the Southeast Asian market of the company, and the region has always been the jewel of the networking companies like Nu Skin.  They make their money here, more than Europe or North America.

Nu Skin Philippines has doubled their revenue in the last year, and when you do that, it is expected that you always surpass your past performance. I have no doubt, they will do so!  As I observed among the other networking companies out there, Nu Skin has the best and most high-paying compensation plan, and they have an excellent support-system to distributors, in terms of company presence, incentives and bonuses.

As of this writing, they are rewarding about 40 distributors on a trip to Hawaii for goals achieved. I heard car incentives are also in the pipeline as bonuses.

And to make sure everyone's on the right mindset for 2013, they have an upcoming goal-setting session on the 16th of November (4pm-8pm) at the SM Megatrade hall.

Invited speakers are Ardy Abello,  whom I've met before and is one of Philippines'  top-ranking and hi-impact trainer and motivational speaker.   To give a more international business perspective within the Nu Skin world, they also invited James Tu, a Taiwanese and  17-year Team Elite status and 1 Million Dollar Circle Member.

Well, as the saying goes,  "Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."  (Les Brown)  Goal-Setting a BHAG, actually a great idea, not  just for million-dollar companies.  But also for us, ordinary toiling souls.

It is good to set goals. Goals give us directions in life,  make us more alive and excited to work everyday because we know that something wonderful is about to happen.

I have a list of my personal BHAG as well.  Things that I've always wanted to do, but don't have the guts, skill and finances to do so.  Others call it Bucket Lists or Dream Boards.  And that, is another story.

Know the Latest Buzz on Weight Management ?

Have you heard about this new weight management program that is buzzing in the Philippines? I call it buzzing because it's hushed-hushed among the beauty, business and corporate communities. It's does not have a noisy "lose weight, ask me how!" campaign that arrest you each time you pee in the public toilets. It is neither the road hazard celebrity endorsements along EDSA.

It is subdued and reasonable, albeit a bit pricey, weight loss program that simply deliver what it promises.  Just so we are on the same plane, weight management is not just about losing weight fats and getting sexy. That's the usual misconception.

I have friends who complain that they only have to smell food and they get fat.  In the same vein, some friends complain that they consume bowl fulls of rice like construction workers, yet they are still reed-thin.
We all have different concepts of our body image.  Some would bemoan of being fat, yet when we look at them. What's the fuss?!  The middle ground (not fat, not thin) is so hard to attain!

I think, the best is to consult someone who is objective and can tell (by scientific method) whether you are healthy or not... Don't you think being healthy is a better goal than getting voluouptous or thin?  Bottom line, health is the most important than anything else.

Going back to this new weight loss program, it is called The Right Approach (TRA) and  the company that offers it is Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines.

The worth-noting aspect about this program, it is not just pill-taking!  It's a synergistic and wholistic approach that has components of an exercise regimen, healthy diet monitoring and other concerns that are unique to your person (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. etc.) and they also address the after-effects of weight loss e.g. sagging skin, cellulite.

Moreover, they have trained their distributors to be Health Consultants who will hold your hand every step of the program.  They will not leave you on your own after you get into to the program.  They will help you monitor your progress every step of the way.  And believe me, there's nothing like having someone looking over your shoulder to encourage you to continue.  Don't Hollywood artists hire these expensive personal trainers to literally get them off their butts and work-out?  :)

Let me just give you a short description of the products involve in the program.

1
. TRA Complex™ - Controls carbohydrate cravings.

TRA Complex

2. DuoLean™ - Fats & Carbohydrate Blocker

DuoLean

3. Diene-O-Lean - Burns body fats, increases muscle mass & shapes your body
Diene-O-Lean

4. TrimShake™ - Delicious & Nutritious Meal Replacement (Available in both Vanilla and Chocolate Flavor)
TrimShake

5. LifePak® - Increase metabolism and delivers significant amount of vitamins, trace minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients.
LifePak

5. Dermatic Effects® - Body Contouring Lotion, inhibits the appearance of cellulites

Dermatic Effects
With regards to diet and right nutrition.  A TRA consultant will guide you using the  3-3-3-3 Diet Principle:  take 3 servings of Carbohydrates, 3 servings of Protein, 3 servings of Vegetables and 3 servings of Fruits. They can show you the best combinations for using Pinoy foods.  No need for those expensive meals concoctions/

The best thing about this program, you are not allowed to go hungry!  As a matter of fact, their principle of proper diet can promote fat burning and fat storage in your body!  Ain't that a happy weigh loss program :))  No more feelings of deprivation!  I've tried all shorts of diets, and each time I feel deprived, I try to make myself feel better by cheating, and eating more!  This one won't allow you that mood.

If you want to know about this latest buzz but are too shy to ask your friends.  Just call Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines
with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN (868-7546). You may drop by their office at  15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines.  They can refer you to a discrete Health Consultant who can expound to you this latest buzz.

Nu Skin SEA-CHF bags a Stevie

Nu Skin Enterprises is at it again!   The company's  efforts for the children of Southeast Asia have won the prestigious International Business Award (IBA) or simply called Stevie Awards.   Nu Skin Southeast Asia Children’s Heart Fund (SEA-CHF) is the recipient of the GOLD Stevie Award for the  category  "Corporate Social Responsibility Program for the Year in Asia, Australia and New Zealand for 2012.

Just a little side story, the Stevie Award is probably one of the world’s most coveted awards.   Each year, more than 300 executives and professionals from around the world, assess numerous entries from various companies, government / non-government organizations and foundations. More than 3,200 nominations were received this year for consideration.   The Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working people worldwide.

Do you know that in Southeast Asia, there are about 50,000 children born with congenital heart disease!  The SEA-CHF have saved more than 4,500 lives since it started in 2003.  The company hopes to double that number by 2014, when they will set to meet their target of 500M USD in total sales for Southeast Asian region.

The great  thing about these efforts, it's not just from Nu Skin as a company but it involves their distributors and employees. They have regular programs in place:  Distributors can donate 1% of their  commissions monthly to the fund.  Employees may choose to donate their paid vacation and/or sick leaves to the fund.  A cost of a child's heart operation is about 50,000 pesos. They don't only donate funds for operations but also to uplift the equipment for heart surgeries, in major public hospitals in the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The President of Nu Skin Enterprises Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Melisa Tantoco -Quijano will receive the award on the 15th of October 2012 in New York.  This will be Melisa's second time to receive the award.  She herself was also a Stevie Awardee for Women in Business in 2011.  Melisa is a Filipina and has transformed Southeast Asia as one of the company's fastest growing region for Nu Skin.

If you are interested to know more about the Southeast Asia Children's Heart Fund and how you can participate, you can just get in-touch with  Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines.  Drop by their office at  15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines, with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN (868-7546).

The Event that Rocked Rockwell!

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about an exciting event at Rockwell Tent in Makati by Nu Skin Philippines.  It's called the Live Young Exposition, a half-day extravaganza showcasing the latest in skin care and anti-aging technology.

Now, I would like to share the write-up and photos from Nu Skin Philippines on the happenings during the event!  From the looks of things,  it was one remarkable affair!

Hosted by their PR and Communications maven,  Ren De la Cruz; and overall direction by Maureen Fernandez, their Sr. Product Trainor ~  the event brought together almost a thousand ant-aging enthusiasts and business people who are banking on the anti-aging industry as the future's no. 1 number 1 business opportunity.  I  don't blame them.  BCC Research in 2009 estimates that the anti-aging industry will reach $274 B US Dollars by 2013 and if you have any business sense, you will ride the wave! BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com) is a leading market research company providing industry reports for categories such as biotech, chemicals, energy, healthcare, information technology, among others)

One thing about Nu Skin, they don't just espouse anti-aging as lathering on topical creams... it's lifestyle changing.  Anti-Aging Inside and Outside.  Thus, you hear Nu Skin distributors talk about proper diet, nutrition, exercise, health supplementation, on top of the usual ~ daily, weekly skin care regimen.   Living Young, after all, it not just looking young... but feeling young and having an active lifestyle.

If you are interested to know more about the latest anti-aging technology and the business opportunity behind it, you can just get in-touch with  Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines.  Drop by their office at  15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines, with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN (868-7546).

DSAP Release List of Legit Networking Companies

So, you have an invitation from a good friend to join a direct-selling business!  You were probably promised big income potential, leveraging on others' efforts, time and financial freedom and amazing products to sell.
But then again, if what's being promised is too good to be true.  I suggest doing in-depth research about the company, before signing-on the dotted line and using your hard-earned money to purchase their products.

The most credible resource on network marketing and direct-selling business is the Direct-Selling Association of the Philippines.  Formed in the late 1970s, they are the self-regulating association composed of direct selling companies here in the Philippines.  The Direct Selling Association is  part of the umbrella of the World Federation of Direct Selling Association based in Washington D.C. USA.

Recently, they released a list of their active members. So, if you're being lured by a company who is not in their roster of members, I urge you to think twice. There are only 32 active association members.  Check out why your prospective company is not in the list.

Could it be that they are not up the ethics and professionalism standards of the direct selling industry.  Or worse, they could be a pyramiding scheme.

The DSAP has an 8-point list to ask yourselves before joining a networking company ~

1. Is there a product?
2. Are commissions paid on sale of products and not on registration/entry fees?
3. Is the intent to sell a product not a position?
4. Is there no direct correlation between the number of recruits and compensation?
5. If recruitment were to be stopped today, will the participants still make money?
6. Is there a reasonable product return policy?
7. Do products have fair market value?
8. Is there a compelling reason to buy?

If the answer to all the questions is YES, then the company being evaluated is a legitimate company.  But if the answer is NO, then there is a high probability that it is a pyramid scam.

Source:
http://dsap.ph/how-to-differentiate-a-legitimate-direct-selling-company-from-pyramiding-using-the-8-point-test.html

Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines has always been an active member of DSAP.  A number of their outstanding distributors are even asked to conduct trainings for them.  Recently, the DSAP has been actively promoting the industry in universities,  with a 2-day course in Direct Selling and Network Marketing. The aim to expose the public to legitimate direct selling and counteract some negative impression, eventually encouraging people to make it as a career.

If you are interested to know more about direct selling or Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines, you can drop by their office at  15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines, with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN.

A Day to Look and Feel Young

If you don't have anything milestone in your life next Friday 24th of August 2011,  (1-8pm)  there's an exciting feel-good event at the Rockwell Tent in Makati, called Live Young Exposition.   It's organized by Nu Skin Philippines, the company that offers the most advance products in anti-aging and weight management in the country today.

They will be showcasing the latest innovation in staying young inside and out.  The technology is called AgeLOC.   This technology addresses aging at its source, our genes.

Nu Skin utilizes the AgeLOC  technology in its core products.   My favorite is the comprehensive daily skin care system called Transformation Set (Cleanse/Tone, Radiant Day SPF 22, Tranforming Night cream and the Future Serum).    Drop by the event, and experience these products and really see a quick transformation in just a few seconds of application!

For those who have issues on their skin or their weight, they have nutritionists and skin care specialist on-hand,  to give you thorough advice on the best regimen.

Not everyone knows, that Nu Skin is also promoting a Weight Management line, in their Pharmanex Health Supplement Division, called TRA.  No, they're not selling diet pills.  They're promoting a whole new lifestyle program  which combines supplements, exercise, and balance nutrition.   The best thing,  they have  certified Weight Management Consultants who will guide you every step of the way, until you reach your desired weight or figure.  You are not alone!

The other interesting and revolutionary activities includes the following:

Body Composition Analysis ~   we all know our age in years, but the real age of our physical body health is different!  You might be 35 now, but at the rate our lifestyles is going, you might have a 50 year old body!  You have to know this!

Biophotonic Scanning ~ they have this extra-ordinary machine from the University of Utah, that can measure anti-oxidants in our body.   It basically tells us whether we are healthy or not!

Galvanic Facial Spa ~ it's a home facial that utilizes soft galvanic current for that youthful appearance in a snap!  it actually costs about 1,500 per session but for this event, they're offering it for only 300 pesos!  A real steal!

It's gonna be a whole lot of fun!  Bring your friends along.  There's street dance, belly dance and zumba  classes for that fun work-out.  They're also bringing a nail art specialist for those girly mani session! :)

Event is  FREE but pre-registration is required.   You can just talk to the person who sent you this link or  contact directly  Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines with offices at 15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines, with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN.

Nourishing Habagat's Victims

Growing up in the province of Masbate, and eventually living in Manila for my college education,  I am used to living with regular visits of strong typhoons.  I grew up knowing that there are about 20 typhoons that visit and devastate our country each year.   Typhoons, used to have women's names, (Reming, Juaning, Neneng) until we ran out of local female names that the weather bureau held a name-that-typhoon contest.  We now have more variety of names to choose from like Falcon, Dodong, Egay, Kabayan etc.
The worst thing, for me, as a kid,  the rainy season coincides with the school year opening.  Most of the times, we haven't started our lessons, and there will be announcements of several days of No Classes.  Sometimes, when they suspend classes late,   I would to school in slippers because I don't want to ruin my new school shoes.  Then, go home again, walking in floods to my thighs.  That's they early 80s in the Chinatown, Manila.  Nowadays, the flooding in Manila is chest-deep!

My hometown in Aroroy, Masbate runs right smack into the typhoon path coming from the Pacific.  We are a mountainous region, there's not much flooding but we would have typhoons that blew rooftops away!

In my adult life, the most recent worst typhoons was in 2009 (when I just 8months pregnant with my youngest girl),  Typhoon Ondoy (International name : Ketsana) left almost 400 dead, Tyhoon Sendong (International name Washi) left almost 1000 dead.   Recently, there has been an anomaly in nature, we didn't have a typhoon but we had a strong Southeast Monsoon or Habagat.  In fact, we didn't even have a name for it, so we just called it Habagat.

Habagat devastated Manila and nearby suburbs last August 7-8 with relentless strong torrential rains.  We had more than 10 days of continuous rains. There were flooding all over the city.  People were evacuated into schools for temporarily shelters.

Eventually, various organizations and individuals mobilize themselves to reach-out to the victims of typhoons. Relief packs are distributed by the thousands.  A relief pack usually consist of instant noodles, rice, sardines, corned beef, and used clothing. Filipinos are really good at this!  Even if people say we have crab mentality and all.... the Bayanihan Spirit still reigns.

This brings me to my next point.  After all our initial relief efforts,  I hope our organizations would consider a more nourishing sustenance for the children of these calamities. Let's face it, many of our children in the slum areas, and even majority of our public school pupils are malnourished.  Many of them are underweight, easily get sick easily and don't do well in school.

There's this initiative of Nu Skin Enterprises, called Nourish the Children.  It hasn't gotten much publicity because they're not under media spotlight.  They have a product called Vitameal.   This lentil-based food is especially formulated for malnourished children, even senior citizens who need nourishment.   It was formulated by scientists in the US, as a complete meal.  No need for viands, or "ulam."  Their product brochure says, it contains:
  • A balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fiber
  • Essential fatty acids required for normal brain development, skin health, and immune defense
  • Electrolytes necessary for maintaining normal fluid balance and muscle function
  • 25 essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A for normal sight and immune functions, as well as nutrients for normal growth and skeletal development*

VitaMeal is vegetarian and non-dairy, and allows for the easy addition of ingredients to fit every taste and culture. It is a meal by itself, but some would cook it with spaghetti (substitute the beef), porridge, sweet snacks with coconut milk, among others.   Each VitaMeal package can be use for 30 child-sized meals, or enough food to provide a child with one nutritious meal each day for a month.

The cost is 1,600 php per bag.  A bit costly, but if you will consider that it's not just a meal, it's a multi-vitamin in itself, it's really worth it. Besides, there's really improvement on the overall health of the child.  This has been tested in feeding programs in Africa and China.

If you're interested,  you can buy the Vitameal pack for yourself or for your organizations.  Alternatively, you can just sign a donation form and your donation will be given to Feed the Children Philippines.  It's the organization that conducts the feeding all over the country.

You can just talk to the person who sent you this link or  contact directly  Nu Skin Enterprises Philippines with offices at 15th floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City, Philippines, with telephone numbers 632-8-NUSKIN.

Exfoliating ~ the next best thing to Molting

One of our often overlooked regimen is exfoliating. Let's face it,  humans are the only species that don't molt as well as the other animals.  Molting is the periodic shedding of hair, skin, shells and even horns of animals. Snakes and lizards are the most prolific when it comes to shedding of old skin.  Twice a year, they literally and beautifully acquire bright clean and shiny skin as if they're re-born.

Humans' skin do shed as well, but not as drastic.  Our skin cells have a lifespan of 35 days. So, technically,  we are shedding off and getting new skin month after month.  But then again, if we don't exfoliate, those dead skin cells will literally stick like stubborn barnacles in body.

Most neglected areas are undersides of the nose, upper forehead,  elbows, ankles, underneath the butt, breasts and those prime real estate that doesn't get sunshine.  (If you know what I mean!)

Two of my super favorite exfoliating medium are from the American  personal care company Nu Skin, with offices at 15th floor Octagon building, San Miguel avenue, Pasig City, Philippines.

For my face, I use Exfoliant Scrub extra gentle.  It's made from marine phytoplankton and aloe vera.  I like it because it's not harsh and doesn't leave my skin feeling scratched.  I have huge pores, and I normally have white heads and black heads if i neglect to exfoliate 3x a week.

Nu Skin Exfoliant Scrub

But then again, I'm careful not to overdo exfoliating because it  also strip  skin's natural moisture and stimulate further oil production.  If you have oily skin, it's a fallacy that you should use face wash with exfoliating beads daily.

Once your skin gets strip of moisture, it sends the signal to the cells to stimulate more oil, thus, your oily skin aggravates.  Just be cool with it.  Use 2-3 weekly or every other day.

Most of the time, when I burn the midnight oil for deadlines, I get dull, dry and flaky skin.  I use this scrub and I unearth my bright skin again.. in an instant!  Luv it!

For my body, I'm absolutely crazy in-love with Nu Skin Liquid Body Lufra.  It's a body scrub made from walnut shells / husks and aloe vera.  I use it 3x a week instead of my bath soap or body wash.  I love how it sloughs off, thick layer of dead skin on my feet, ankles, knees and elbows.  Actually,  I use it all over my body except my neck and face.

Nu Skin Liquid Body Lufra

This body scrub leaves me feeling like a pampered newborn, all the time!  Remember to follow-up with your favorite moisturizers!

Now, moisturizers are another field of discourse altogether!  I have moisturizers to just feel sexy, moisturizers for dry cold weather, for warm climate, for firming and tightening the skin.  Oh, those moisturizers deserve another fabulous blog entry!

'til next time!  happy scrubbing!

Young and Livin' the Life!

Marlon and Pen Ilagan are living the life most young people, at their age, are still dreaming of.

They have barely reached their 30s.  Yet, they have achieved a lifestyle that most folks would take years to work for.

No, they were not born rich nor did they inherit tons of money from their parents.  What's admirable with this couple, is that they worked from scratch everything they have now.

Marlon was a junior college student at the Ateneo de Manila,  taking up Chemistry and Computer Engineering when his classmate introduced him to a business opportunity at 15th Floor Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City;  which was Nu Skin.

“A huge income that comes every month whether you like it or not.”  These were words that gave me sleepless nights after I saw the Nu Skin business presentation. The supporting company profile was superb. Their track record was excellent."  I signed-up right then and there after the opportunity was presented to me.

Pen was a self-sufficient, working student from San Beda college taking up International Business and Entrepreneurial Management.  She is an only child, whose parents have long-separated.  She was used to  taking care of herself and her dream was to have her own business so she wouldn't  have to work for anybody.  She was introduced to Nu Skin by a friend whom she met in one of her quest for businesses to engage in.

The two met at the Nu Skin premises, while each were doing their own thing, carving out their own names in the world of networking.

"I am impressed by his being down-to-earth and his ambition to  make a name for himself. His family is well-off.  He had the best education.  He could've taken over his family business as sole distributor of a popular noodle brand in the South of Manila. He could've just accepted any of the lucrative job offers he had after graduating from Ateneo.  Yet he had a vision of something bigger.  He is a man of big dreams."  Pen says of Marlon.

While Marlon on the other hand, describes Pen as no-nonsense kind of girl.  "She has been through a lot with her family.  At an early age, she knows how to earn money and make it work for her. She's very independent.  She is not petty and shallow like most people our age.   I was impressed by her passion in everything she sets her mind into."

Needless to say, the young couple made their commitment to each other for keeps.

It was to be a marriage made in heaven.  For three successive years in a row, Pen gave birth to their three  lovely children, Miko, Maki and Mika.

Business-wise, they are having the time of their lives.   They travel all over the world, and have established a business that allows the time and financial freedom to enjoy with their kids and friends, whenever and wherever they want to.

"Today as Blue Diamonds, we are enjoying our lives to the fullest. Although we are still actively growing our Nu Skin business full-time to greater heights, the rewards are worth it. We get to dedicate as much time as we want to our children without a boss calling us back to work. We get to go on vacation, yet know that our business is still making money. We get to enjoy life, even at a relatively young age."

"We truly feel that we are blessed. But, the best thing about this opportunity is that this is possible for everybody. Through Nu Skin, all of you have this choice. This is a choice to work hard for a few years, and then reap the rewards of a lifetime of happiness. This is a choice to focus on being the best that you can be. We urge everyone to make this decision. We all have one life to live, don’t wish for it to be easy, instead decide to make it worth it."

The couple barely reached their 30s. Pen is only 24 years old, while Marlon is 28.  But with the achievements that they have accomplished, they are certainly worthwhile emulating!

Young and Livin' the Life! (part two)

Marlon and Pen Ilagan, Nu Skin Philippines' Blue Diamond executives and recipient of Direct Selling Association of the Philippines' Top Entrepreneur of the Year, answers some of the Most Frequently Asked Questions regarding networking and the rewarding opportunity of Nu Skin Enterprises.

What is the most challenging aspect in the Nu Skin business that you constantly had to hurdle?

The most challenging aspect of this business is when people quit. I understand that many people are normally quitters.

This business is about finding and helping people who want to help themselves. Other people may quit on the business, but I will never quit on my dreams.

What are the instances that you almost gave up (please specify) but what made (specify also) you continue to move on with the business?
Ever since I joined Nuskin, I made a one time decision to become successful no matter what. It never crossed my mind to quit.

How do you motivate yourself?
Every time I go home, I see my wonderful kids, Miko, Maki, and Mika. I truly want the best life for them. They give me strength to continue when I am tired. When on the road in different provinces, I always call them or look at their picture. They remind me that I must pursue excellence in this business to give them a dream lifestyle

What is the secret to getting new clients? Sponsoring new people?
There is no secret. Hard work, focus, and consistency is key.

How do you break the ice, when talking to new people? When doing "bumps"?
Honestly, I don't know how to do bumps. I always advocate sponsoring from warm market always, and working on the warm market of new partners.

Do you still have people in your chicken list? who?
Not anymore.

What is the most valuable gift that this business has given you?
Time with my family. The ability to become the best husband, provider, and father to my family. The business also gave me the ability to eliminate money problems from our life.

You are a leader, managing leaders. how do you handle your organization, especially that they have become bigger and they are leaders in their own rights?
I truly believe that to grow my organization, I must lead by example. Leaders always lead on the battlefield, not in a strategy room.

what is your future goals in your business and why?
My short term goal in the business is to be team elite this year. For the next 5 years, my goal is to create 1,000 new executives & 20 Blue Diamonds in my organization. I want to create wealth that can be passed on to my family for generations. This can only be achieved by helping other people become successful also.

What are the regrets that you have, and how do you live with it?
I have no regrets. Our past does not define our future. The beauty of this business is that it enables us to create the future we desire free from our past mistakes.

Any message for the new distributors/ sign-ups/ for those who are still thinking of joining Nu Skin?
This will be the most rewarding experience you can have. This business won't be easy, but definitely it will be the easiest business you can ever own. Keep your focus and don't ever quit.
